Late diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, leading to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a significant concern in the UK. The National Paediatric Diabetes Audit 2021/22 showed that 25.6% of children and young people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in England and Wales presented in DKA, with a rising trend over recent years. The incidence of children presenting with DKA at diagnosis has been on the rise worldwide1. 25.8% of newly diagnosed children had DKA at diagnosis according to the NPDA report (2020/21). 34% of newly diagnosed children in the Yorkshire and Humber(Y&H) region presented in DKA2.
